About Virtual Colonoscopy

Did you know the colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of death in both men and women? Studies show that the occurrence of colorectal cancer can be reduced with regular screening, however only 37% of adults over 50 were screened last year, mostly due to the unpleasant nature of a traditional colonoscopy.

Virtual Colonoscopy is an exciting, effective, efficient alternative for the screening of colorectal cancer. CT Virtual Colonoscopy is a minimally invasive and highly accurate procedure. Unlike traditional colonoscopy, patients do not need anesthetic and are therefore able to carry on with their regular daily activities after screening. The exam takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and your results are available for you in as soon as an hour after the exam. Preparation in the form of a colon cleanse is necessary the day before, and might require an adjustment to your schedule.

Who should have a Virtual Colonoscopy?

The American Cancer Society recommends regular colon cancer screening for men and women over the age of 50, however, if there is a significant family history of colon cancer, the recommended starting age is 40. If you have any questions about your personal screening necessity, one of our physicians would be more than happy to discuss your options with you.
